Schooling
Costa Rica's literacy rate is 97%, the highest of all Latin American countries. Primary education (for both sexes) was declared compulsory and free (funded by the State) in 1869.
Sustainable Country
An answer to the question “Why Move to Costa Rica? “it's the country's sustainability. In fact, Costa Rica is among the most sustainable countries in the world; this means finding protected ecosystems and landscapes, clean air, pristine rivers, intact forests and much more. Despite its small size, the country has 25 national parks and 58 nature reserves; in all, more than a quarter of the national territory is protected. With its 1500 km of lush coastline and with a very high biodiversity index distributed in a wide range of microclimates, Costa Rica fully deserves its reputation as a natural paradise in which to live.
Respect for Nature and Biodiversity
Costa Rica has dedicated more than 25% of its territory to national parks and protected reserves, guaranteeing excellent eco-tourism potential with a wide range of adventurous activities. At least 500,000 distinct species live in Costa Rica's parks and reserves, or about 4.5% of what is supposed to be the total number of living species. With these numbers, Costa Rica is one of the countries with the richest biodiversity in the world.
Health Care
The healthcare is of high quality and affordable. The state bodies responsible for this service are the Costa Rican Social Security Fund and the Ministry of Health, which offer a high quality of life to citizens with a significant network of hospitals, clinics and health facilities, both public and private. Both public and private hospitals have earned an excellent reputation for quality and level of service. The largest hospitals are concentrated in the main cities, in San José and in San Isidro del General, while a new hospital center in the south, near Uvita, is rapidly becoming a reference both for medical tourism and for residents. Permanent residents and even tourists can apply for voluntary medical insurance through government insurance companies, such as the National Insurance Institute (INS), and many foreigners and retirees choose this solution.
An Oasis of Peace, Development, Democracy and Tropical Wealth
With its slower pace of life, warm and welcoming climate, fresh and healthy food, and reputation as one of the 'greenest and cleanest' countries in the world, it's no wonder that Costa Ricans are considered to be among the 'happiest people on the planet'.
